The Atlantic reported in early February that Black spending power will reach 1.2 trillion dollars by the end of 2016. This number has also been cited by many racist news outlets and so-called leaders in the so-called Black community when speaking of solutions to Black people’s problems—both guilty of perpetuating the idea that Black spending power is key to any solution.
While leaders of the Black community are mislead and in error when speaking of Black spending power, White people are just being themselves: tacky, trashy, and terroristic. Any narrative that takes the focus away from Black people’s real problem—White people—is racist because it perpetuates racism.
A little perspective: the wealth of the 20 richest people in the United States (all White people) equals the “spending power” of 40 plus million Black people, and don’t think for one second White people are not aware of this. Tacky, trashy, terroristic.
